Vacheron Constantin 4073 Pink Gold
A study in refined simplicity, the Vacheron Constantin reference 4073 is an understated and overlooked time-only classic from the mid 20th century.
This is the Vacheron Constantin reference 4073. Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron at a tender young age of 24, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest continually operating watch manufacturer. A rich history of producing quality of the highest standards, the brand has undoubtedly been one of the most resilient, surviving both world wars and many other historical events along the way. Among many other accolades, Vacheron is also the current purveyor of the world’s most complicated wristwatch with the recent release of the Les Cabinotiers Solaria boasting 41 complications to celebrate the brand’s 270th anniversary.
While the 4073 isn't often regarded as a flagship model from the brand's history, the reference is truly one of its most overlooked time-only models. Introduced during the mid 1940s, the reference 4073 embodies a period in the brand's history where proportion and elegance took precedence over excess. Restrained and minimalist, the 4073 is the brand's answer to refined simplicity. Housed in a 34mm pink gold case, the reference carries the brand's signature teardrop-style lugs and sloped bezel. The dial remains perfectly symmetrical, with rose gold applied baton-style indices and a small seconds at the 6 with a central guilloche finish. Powered by the Cal.453 with fausses-cotes decoration, the reference perfectly embodies the brand during the mid 20th century. In addition, the offered example is housed in a pink gold case, which is materially far less common than the usual case metal of yellow gold. While undocumented, it is likely that the pink gold variant is 2-3 times less common that its yellow gold counterpart.
A study in understated elegance, the reference is an expression of the brand's philosophy. As collectors continue to gravitate toward time-only watches, the 4073 is proof that Vacheron Constantin can execute refined simplicity as well as any of its peers.
This Vacheron Constantin 4073 is in very good vintage condition. The dial shows minimal signs of wear and remains in excellent condition for its age. The signature shows some light signs of fading but remains fully legible. The caseback has some light wear in the form of hairlines consistent with its age and the lugs remain well-defined. The watch retains its original AW pink gold 18k buckle but does not come with any box or papers and is in full working order.
