Vacheron Constantin 47101
Powered by the historically significant Lemania 2320 column-wheel chronograph movement, the Vacheron Constantin 47101 remains a defining reference of the brand from the 1990s.
This is the Vacheron Constantin 47101. Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron at a tender young age of 24, Vacheron Constantin holds the distinction of the longest running watch manufacturer in the world. With a rich history of producing quality of the highest standards, the brand is undoubtedly one of the most resilient having survived both world wars and many other historical events along the way. Vacheron is also the current purveyor of the world’s most complicated wristwatch with the recent release of the Les Cabinotiers Solaria boasting 41 complications to celebrate the brand’s 270th anniversary.
Introduced in 1989 as part of the brand's famous Les Historiques collection, the Vacheron Constantin 47101 paid tribute to the historically important reference 4178 with a similarly-styled case featuring the brand's signature teardrop lugs. Produced during the neo-vintage period of the 1990s, the reference was eventually succeeded by the reference 47111. With relatively low production numbers in line with the period, the reference has quietly seen a renaissance with the emergence in demand of important references of the time.
Powered by the Vacheron Cal. 1140 based on the storied Lemania 2320 column-wheel chronograph movement, the movement remains one of the most important of its era and has powered several iconic references including the Breguet 3237 and the Patek Philippe 5070. Exquisitely finished with a swan-neck regulator and a self-compensating Breguet spring, the Lemania 2310 is often regarded as one of the best chronograph movements ever produced. On the front, the dial is well-balanced, featuring two subdials displaying the 30-minute counter and chronograph counter and a tachymeter on the chapter ring.
While the 47101 has undoubtedly seen a resurgence in demand, it is well-deserved given that the reference is truly one of defining chronographs to emerge from that era. A timeless reinterpretation of an important reference in the brand's history, the 47101 stands tall among important references from Vacheron Constantin as a defining timepiece from its history.
This Vacheron Constantin 47101 is in very good pre-owned condition. The case shows some signs of wear in the form of hairlines consistent with its age without any major dings or dents. The dial remains well-preserved with no signs of aging and the caseback engravings including the serial and hallmarks remain deep and legible. The watch does not come with any box or papers but retains its original Vacheron Constantin 18k yellow gold buckle and is in full working order.
