Rolex Day-Date 18206 Lapis Lazuli

US$0.00

Description

This is the Rolex Day-Date 18206. Within the Rolex line, the Day-Date is often the model that is associated with the highest level of prestige. Introduced in 1956, it was the first timepiece to display both the day and the date on the dial. The nickname, “The President”, was derived from this timepiece being gifted to then President Dwight Eisenhower. The nickname actually refers to the bracelet that accompanies the watch rather than the entire timepiece itself.

Traditionally associated with prestige, the demand for vintage Day-Dates have increased drastically with the understanding that these precious metal pieces were actually undervalued. Most don’t come with bracelets as they were removed and sold separately in the past.

The reference 18206 was introduced in 1988 with a new movement, the Calibre 3155. Importantly, this brought about the double quickset function, making it much easier to adjust the day and the date independently. The 18206 as a reference is the last series of the five-digit Day-Dates and was replaced by the six digit Day-Dates in 2000.

As far as Day-Dates go, platinum is likely the most uncommon of all metals. Both subtle and hefty, platinum is one of the more sought after case metals for timepieces. The 0 in the reference refers to the smooth bezel and this particular piece comes with a Lapis Lazuli dial, which has seen a great increase in collectability. Stone dials have grown in popularity in recent years, with pristine examples being fairly hard to come by. The 18206 in itself is not a reference that’s commonly available. Paired with a Lapis Lazuli dial, this is certainly a rare configuration.

Condition

This Rolex Day-Date 18206 is in very good pre-owned condition. It has just received a service by Rolex 2021 and will be sold with accompanying Rolex paperwork. The dial is a later Rolex factory replacement and is clean with no flaws. The case remains thick with even lugs and the bracelet exhibits no stretch with 3 removable links and will comfortably fit a wrist of 6.75”. The watch is in full working order.
