Breguet Saltarello Souscription Jump Hour

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Breguet Saltarello Souscription Jump Hour. While Breguet may not be the first brand mentioned by collectors today, the brand has one of the strongest legacies when it comes to watchmaking. Originally established in the late 18th century, Louis Breguet was an early adopter of the steel hands with circle motifs, the curved numerals and the guilloche pattern on the dial. The design language is distinctive even up till today. The “Souscription”, a single-hand pocket watch, is one of the most important and famous pocket watches in history. In the early 19th century, Louis Breguet invented the Tourbillion to counteract the effects of gravity and it remains as one of the most sought after complications even today.

Modelled after the original souscription method employed by Abraham Louis Breguet in the production of his early pocket watches, the Saltarello Souscription was designed specifically for the Italian market in a limited edition of 50 pieces. Characterized by the guilloche dial, Breguet-style numerals and a solitary minute hand with a jump hour aperture at the 12, the watch is quintessentially Breguet with its timeless aesthetic. Given that the jump hour complication existed in Breguet pocket watches more than a century ago, the Saltarello Souscription is reminiscent of the finer elements utilized by the brand in its early days in a modern form.

While Breguets have traditionally been fairly undervalued considering the historical significance and fine watchmaking associated with the brand, it is encouraging to see that the brand has seen somewhat of a renaissance with greater depth and understanding of not just the brand’s legacy but also, of horology as a whole. Showcasing the brand’s artistry in watchmaking, the Saltarello Souscription represents yet another interesting offering among neo-vintage Breguets.

Condition

This Breguet Jump Hour is in very good pre-owned condition. The case has some light hairlines notably on the caseback with the hallmarks and engravings still deep and clear. The bezel remains in excellent condition with only light hairlines without any dings or dents. The dial shows no sign of age and it retains the original Breguet box as well as 18k yellow gold buckle. The jump hour mechanism is flawless and the watch is in full working order.
