Cartier Les Must de Cartier Tank Art Deco 1616

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Must de Cartier 1616 Art Deco Limited Edition. The Must de Cartier Tanks were created to combat the quartz crisis that engulfed the Swiss watch industry in the 70s, it was a relatively low-priced version based on the Tank LC model that Cartier is famous for. As the appeal of precious metal high-end watches dwindled in comparison to the consumer-friendly quartz watches, Cartier decided to manufacture the tank in silver and plating it with gold to retain the luxury that they're so renowned for while keeping costs low to retain affordability. With a myriad of colours and a seemingly endless selection of dials, the "Must" appears to have regained some of its former glory. Let's never forget that it was instrumental to Cartier during the quartz crisis. In W&W 2021, Cartier relaunched the Must in steel, capitalizing on the newfound interest in the brand. This particular dial variant is not commonly found. Inspired by the Art Deco period, this dial is reminiscent of the coloured church windows of the early 20th century and was released as a limited edition of 1,000 as a tribute to the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition.

Condition

This Must de Cartier Tank 1616 is in excellent pre-owned condition. The silver case shows no signs of age as the case remains in relatively unworn condition with all engravings clear on the caseback. The watch also comes in a full set of original box, Cartier manuals and the original certificate of guarantee dated 1995. The dial has some light discolouration over time without any visible damage.
