Cartier Santos Galbee 2319 SIHH Limited Edition

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Cartier Santos Galbee reference 2319. The origins of the Santos began in 1904, when Louis Cartier’s good friend, Alberto Santos-Dumont, wanted a wristwatch to accompany him while he was flying due to the impracticalities of the pocket watch. In 1906, Alberto Santos Dumont was the first ever person filmed in a flight sporting the iconic Cartier watch that was designed by Louis Cartier and the rest, as they say, is history. Among the many Cartier timepieces, the Santos is arguably their most recognizable model alongside the Tank.

Throughout the years since the first inception of the original Santos, there have been several iterations of the flagship model. Introduced as the successor to the Carree in 1987, the aforementioned Santos Galbee was lightly curved to fit comfortably on the wrist. This is fitting given that the word “Galbee” meant curved in the French language. Commercial success of this model was further enhanced by the appearance of its full gold iteration in the movie Wall Street as its first notable appearance in pop culture and the Cartier Santos become defined by the integrated bracelet and its exposed screws on both the bracelet and bezel.

A limited release from SIHH 2002 held in Singapore, this particular limited edition is notable for its sunburst grey dial and luminous Roman indices. The symmetry of the dial is enhanced by the removal of the date window and this iteration remains one of the most distinctive and beloved within the Santos Galbee family. A model that perfectly encapsulates the brand’s ethos, the design of the Santos has proven its longevity over its lifetime and will likely remain in the Cartier lineup for a long time to come.

Condition

This Cartier Santos Galbee is in excellent pre-owned condition with only minor signs of wear. The bezel has some light hairlines from prior wear without any dings. The case remains thick and well-defined with only minor hairlines on the bracelet from prior wear. The bracelet will fit a wrist of up to 6.75”. Both crystal and dial have no signs of wear. The watch does not come with its original box or papers and is in full working order.
