Cartier Tank Americaine 1741

SOLD

Description

This is the Cartier Tank Americaine 1741. The history of the Cartier Tank is one that barely needs any introduction, given that it has been covered excessively. The origins of the Tank began in 1917, inspired by war machines of the same name. Given the success of the original Tank, Cartier began to vary the types of Tank to leverage on the success of the model. The iconic original curved Tank, the Cintree, was introduced in 1921. This was something refreshing and unexpected, for a curved watch was not something that was anticipated to be well received in the more conservative times of the past. In 1989, the Tank Americaine was introduced as another variation. As the 90s ushered in the era of larger timepieces, the bigger Tank Americaine was befitting of the trends at that time. Reminiscent of a Cintree, the Americaine had a curved case with a much flatter caseback. It wears unlike the Cintree given that the Cintree shapes the wrist and the Americaine sits on it. In 1995, the white gold variant was introduced with a much shorter production period than its yellow and rose gold counterparts. It was only until many years later that Cartier decided to manufacture the Americaine in steel.

Condition

This Cartier Tank Americaine 1741 is in very good pre-owned condition. The caseback remains pristine with very minor signs of wear. On the case, there are some hairlines from prior wear consistent with its age. The watch appears to be unpolished and retains the original 18k white gold Cartier buckle.
