Given the success of the original Tank, Cartier began to vary the types of Tank to leverage on the success of the model. The iconic original curved Tank, the Cintree, was introduced in 1921. This was something refreshing and unexpected, for a curved watch was not something that was anticipated to be well received in the more conservative times of the past. In 1989, the Tank Americaine was introduced as another variation. As the 90s ushered in the era of larger timepieces, the bigger Tank Americaine was befitting of the trends at that time. Reminiscent of a Cintree, the Americaine had a curved case with a much flatter caseback. It wears unlike the Cintree given that the Cintree shapes the wrist and the Americaine sits on it. This variant of the Tank Americaine is the XL in white gold and is less commonly available in the market. The case dimensions are 26.5 x 46 and it runs on the Cal 500MC automatic movement.

This Cartier Tank Americaine 2521 is in good pre-owned condition. There are hairlines on the white gold case from prior wear, notably near the 3 and 9 o’clock marker. The caseback is in very good condition and the dial is clean. There are some small hairlines on the crystal. It retains its original buckle and a unworn Cartier strap.
