Description

This is the Gerald Genta Success Perpetual Calendar GMT reference G35547. A creator synonymous to the history of watchmaking, Gerald Genta was responsible for several iconic watches that have shaped the watch industry as we know it today. From the seminal sports models such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak to the Patek Philippe Nautilus, Genta was also the creator of vintage treasures such as the Universal Geneve Polerouter and Omega Constellation. While his first creation was the Polerouter in 1954, Genta started his eponymous company in 1969 to create watches under his own brand name which gave rise to complicated watches bearing the Gerald Genta signature.

In comparison to the many references attributed to Gerald Genta, perhaps the smallest production numbers derive from the numbered complicated watches produced under his own brand. It is perhaps in these releases that Genta could truly be free of any design restrictions and come into his own and this is where the aforementioned Success model was borne.

Bearing the notable geometric case shape that has come to define the Genta releases of the time, the G35547 is a machine packed into a diminutive 34.5mm yellow gold case. With visible screws that are reminiscent of his other famous designs and a faceted sapphire crystal, the reference stands out with its textured carbon dial and white mother-of-pearl subdials. Highly complicated, the perpetual calendar features a dual time zone alongside day, month, leap year and date indicators.

With the resurgence of neo-vintage independents such as Daniel Roth and Roger Dubuis, the Gerald Genta brand has garnered more attention in recent years and has recently been revived by the LVMH group as a standalone brand managed by La Fabrique du Temps. While the Success line may not be the most well-known, it certainly represents Gerald Genta at his most creative and unshackled.

Condition

This Gerald Genta G35547 is in good overall condition with no dings or dents on the case. The case has some light hairlines on the bezel from prior wear. The caseback engravings as well as the hallmarks remain deep and legible. The dial has no signs of age and the pushers all function as they should. The watch comes without its original box or papers but retains the original Gerald Genta strap and yellow gold buckle. The watch is in full working order.
