Hermes Limited Edition for Hodinkee H08

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Hermes Limited Edition for Hodinkee H08. A brand name associated with haute couture, Hermes has one of the strongest brand equities within the luxury segment. While more known for its leather goods, Hermes has actually been producing timepieces since the early 1900s when the first timepiece bearing the brand’s name was unveiled in 1928. Not unlike its counterparts Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Bulgari, Hermes has largely been known as a maker of fashion watches that were generally overlooked by serious collectors.

With the rise of watch collecting as a whole, recent impressive complications such as the Arceau L’Heure De La Lune and Le Temps Voyageur began to put the community on notice. Notably, the Le Temps Voyageur was a double GPHG award winner. In 2006, Hermes acquired a minority stake in movement maker Vaucher, culminating in the H1837 which was first equipped in the Hermes dressage models in the early 2000s.

In Watches & Wonders 2021, Hermes introduced the brand’s interpretation of a sports timepiece with the H08, representing its first foray into entry-level sports watches. With a cushion-shaped case and powered by the aforementioned Vaucher H1837 movement, the H08 managed to remain distinctive in a crowded space with an emphasis on design as expected from a house like Hermes. Set apart by the typography and case, the H08 is quintessentially Hermes and while unspectacular, is now a mainstay in the brand’s watch catalogue. Designed in collaboration with Hodinkee in a DLC-coated titanium case, the Hodinkee edition retains most of the elements of the original H08 while incorporating a new sand-coloured dial and matching rubber strap that gives the special edition its own identity.

As Hermes makes strides towards serious watchmaking, it has displayed patience and understanding of the time and investment required to truly establish itself in horology. Given its sizeable resources and the fact that history has proven that its eye for design is second-to-none, it will not be a surprise that Hermes will be a prominent watchmaker in time to come if the brand devotes enough attention to the task.
