Omega "60th Anniversary" Speedmaster 311.10.39.30.01.001

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Omega “60th Anniversary” Speedmaster. Likely the model that’s most associated with the Omega brand, this iconic chronograph was introduced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph. Originally powered by the famous Calibre 321, the Omega Speedmaster was worn by astronauts on space missions as they needed a watch that could withstand the conditions of outer space and in 1964, only Omega’s Speedmaster passed the rigorous selection criteria.

As mentioned earlier, Omega released their iconic trio of watches that would form the basis of their most popular timepieces for decades to come - the Speedmaster, Seamaster and Railmaster and each represented a different but functional utility as tool watches. 60 years later in 2017, Omega released a re-issue of this important trilogy, including the aforementioned 60th anniversary Speedmaster.

The 60th anniversary Speedmaster is as good a re-creation of the original CK2915 as one can expect. The case is 38mm, true to the original, which differed from the more modern 42mm associated with recent editions. Details such as the broad arrow hands, the straight lugs and the original font have been retained to ensure that the re-issue is as close to the original as possible.

With a limited run of 3,557 pieces, the 60th anniversary Speedmaster is perhaps the one to get if one is fond of the original CK2915-1. Granted, fans of the vintage original may point to differences such as the faux patina or the 1861 movement but the vintage, all-original examples often trade at stratospheric prices, especially as auctions. Given the resemblance, Omega fans will undoubtedly be forgiven if they choose the re-issue to fulfill their vintage desires.

Condition

This Omega 60th Anniversary Speedmaster is in good overall condition. There are hairlines on the caseback and the bracelet, notably on the clasp, from prior wear which can be polished off upon request. There is a small scuff on the crystal near the 11 but only visible under bright light. The watch comes in a full set with the original box and warranty dated 2017 as well as both NATO and leather straps and is in full working order.
