Omega De Ville Co-Axial Limited Edition 5931.81.23

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Omega De Ville reference 5931.81.23. While the brand is far more known for its flagship Speedmaster lineup that has become synonymous with Omega, the De Ville line was introduced as early as 1960 before becoming its very own line in 1967. Consisting of the dressier watches produced by the brand, the De Ville collection remains a fundamental yet understated part of the brand’s history.

Among the many De Villes produced by Omega, this reference sets itself apart as it contains the first ever movement incorporating George Daniel’s co-axial escapement technology. A derivative of the reliable ETA 2892-A2, the cal. 2500 represents a significant milestone not just for the brand but also for watchmaking at the turn of the millennium given that this was the first ever commercially produced watch to feature the co-axial escapement. This reference also set the stage for Omega to include the Co-Axial escapement in many other subsequent references.

Produced as limited edition runs in various metals including yellow gold and platinum, this 5931.81.23 is encased in 18K red gold with a classically proportioned 37.5mm case. Upon closer inspection, the pie-pan midnight dial harks back to the quintessential vintage Omega – the Constellation. The dial itself has a granular finish and the deep blue colour compliments the red gold case perfectly.

A reference that remains underrated, the 5931.81.23 is far lesser known that many of its counterparts despite its importance. Practical in both design and function, this limited edition De Ville is truly one of the hidden gems among modern Omegas.

Condition

This Omega De Ville 5931.81.23 is in new-old-stock condition with no signs of prior wear besides handling marks. The watch retains its original box, certificate, warranty card dated 2000 and manual and is in full working order.
