Omega "Tintin" Speedmaster 311.30.42.30.01.004

US$0.00

Description

This is the Omega “Tintin” Speedmaster. Likely the model that’s most associated with the Omega brand, this iconic chronograph was introduced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph. Originally powered by the famous Calibre 321, the Omega Speedmaster was worn by astronauts on space missions as they needed a watch that could withstand the conditions of outer space and in 1964, only Omega’s Speedmaster passed the rigorous selection criteria.

When it comes to Speedmasters, there are a few that are among the most recognizable within the lineup. One of them is the “Tintin” which was actually made as a homage to the actual Tintin comic. It was even created with a Tintin rocket on the dial. However, Omega was unable to get the rights from the publisher of Tintin and the rocket was removed. In the end, this was released as a “Racing” variation. This particular reference was introduced in 2013 during Baselworld to lukewarm reception. In fact, the reception was so underwhelming that it was cancelled a few years after the initial introduction.

Given the short production period of the Tintin, it’s no wonder that it is considered a collectible, though this likely happened far later than the brand may have wished. With the finite supply that was created by its discontinuation, it has certainly become one of the more sought after Speedmasters of its generation.

Condition

This Omega “Tintin” Speedmaster is in very good pre-owned condition. There are some light hairlines on the case from prior wear but remains largely invisible to the naked eye. The caseback remains in excellent condition and there are some scratches on the clasp from prior wear. The bracelet is fully linked. It comes with its original set of box and warranty card and is in full working order.
