Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Seibu Limited Edition 270.8.62

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Jaeger-Lecoultre Reverso Seibu Limited Edition 270.8.62. This particular limited edition is the result of a collaboration between JLC and the famous Seibu Department Store in Japan that was established in 1949. A manufacturer synonymous with its flagship model, the Reverso, JLC is a storied brand with a long and rich history in watchmaking. Colloquially known as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker” for its watchmaking prowess, the brand has almost two centuries of watchmaking history with its most important and recognizable creation being the first reversible watch, the Reverso.

The story of the Reverso began in 1931, where Rene-Alfred Chauvot patented the creation of what would eventually become the brand’s most iconic and associated model. Dating back pre-JLC, the Reverso was originally meant for the sport of polo, with the reversible case acting as protection for the front. Throughout the years, there have been countless variations of the iconic JLC model since its first introduction in the early 20th century.

A dial variant that has been prevalent through the Reverso's lifetime, the Seibu Limited Edition employs the Art Deco style dial with dagger style applied rose gold indices, dauphine hands as well as a central guilloche dial with a small seconds indicator at the 6. This timeless dial variant is more commonly seen on neo-vintage Reversos from the 90s and early 2000s - a period where the brand produced several limited editions in varying configurations with the common denominator being the Art Deco inspired dial reminiscent of Reversos from the 40s. On the reverse side, this Seibu Limited Edition sets itself apart with its open caseback displaying the cal. 822 movement that powers other Reversos of the era. In addition, the 26 x 42 Grande Taille case has proven to be a timeless case size that has been used by JLC through several decades due to its wearability.

As with other Japan Limited Edition Reversos, one can safely estimate that only a handful of these watches were produced. In addition, the configuration of a stainless steel case, Art Deco dial and open caseback remains uncommon within the realm of Reversos. While this reference remains largely under-the-radar, it truly stands out with its distinguished aesthetics and proportions that often characterizes Japan-exclusive limited editions.

Condition

This JLC Reverso is in good pre-owned condition. The case remains free of dings or dents but there are some hairlines on the stainless steel bezel and near the lugs. The caseback remains in good overall condition with all caseback engravings still crisp. Both inner and outer crystal have no wear. It does not come with its original box or papers and it retains the stainless steel JLC buckle. The watch is in full working order.
