Rolex Day-Date 1803 "Silver Linen"

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Rolex Day-Date 1803. Within the Rolex line, the Day-Date is often the model that is associated with the highest level of luxury. Introduced in 1956, it was the first timepiece to display both the day and the date on the dial. The nickname, “The President”, was derived from this timepiece being gifted to then President Dwight Eisenhower and actually refers to the bracelet that accompanies the watch rather than the entire timepiece itself. Traditionally associated with prestige, the Day-Date line was produced solely in precious metals with an option of a smooth or fluted bezel.

The reference 1803 is widely known as the most popular vintage Day-Date reference which best represents the idea of a vintage Rolex President. Notably, the watch was fitted with an acrylic crystal that adds to the vintage flair of the 1803. This was replaced in the next reference by a more modern sapphire crystal that is used until today. Another distinct feature of the 1803 is the “pie-pan” dial that was used only up till this particular reference.

Fitted with a hidden-clasp President bracelet, the 1803 is powered by the Cal. 1556 workhorse movement produced by Rolex. This was the final reference without a quickset function as the successor, the 18038, featured a single quickset date and subsequently, quicksets for both the day and date function. The dial is silver with a linen-like texture and onyx hour markers with full tritium lume plots. In addition, the dial is a sigma dial, signifying the use of gold components within the dial with a shorter production span than the regular Day-Date dials.

Quintessentially Rolex, the 1803 is often the first reference that comes to mind when discussing vintage Day-Dates and is the last of the four digit Day-Dates with a production period of more than 20 years. As much as the model has evolved with the times, even a vintage reference such as the 1803 still truly represents the lavishness and opulence of a Rolex President in full gold.

Condition

This Rolex 1803 “Silver Linen” is in good overall condition. The dial is clean with no signs of age and the case remains in good overall condition with some signs of wear on the caseback. The lugs remain thick and even and the hallmarks are still clear on the caseback. The bracelet has average stretch for its age with 53 endlinks and has a total of 21 links with 2 removable. The watch has just been serviced and is in full working order.
