Rolex Zenith Daytona 16520 "Inverted Six"

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Rolex Daytona 16520. There’s nothing more to be said that hasn’t been said about the Rolex Daytona. While the word “iconic” gets thrown around pretty loosely these days, it’s definitely a befitting description of one of the most recognizable watches of all times. Likely the most famous model from Rolex, the Rolex Daytona was actually named after a Florida city that became the world capital of speed.

This particular five-digit reference is special as it was actually powered by a heavily modified Zenith El Primero movement, named as Rolex Caliber 4030. Introduced in 1988, post the Valjoux era, these were the first automatic chronographs introduced by Rolex. This series ran for 12 years, after which they were replaced by Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement.

As with mass production pieces, collectors often look for the minute details to increase the desirability of a piece and this particular one has an upside-down six on the 12-hour counter known as the “Inverted Six”, making it just that bit more collectible.

Undeniably a statement piece, the Daytona is often considered as a holy grail to most watch collectors. This is especially so for the Zenith Daytona given that they lie in the sweet spot between the vintage to neo-vintage era and remain extremely sought after. Of all the sports watches, the Daytona has shown to be the most timeless.

Condition

This Rolex Zenith Daytona is in excellent vintage condition. There are only very minor signs of wear on the previously polished case. The lugs remain thick and even and both the crystal and the dials have no flaws. There are some hairlines on the bracelet from prior wear and the bracelet is stamped P (circa 1991) with 13 links. It comes with the original set of box, warranty papers and manuals and both tags. The watch is in full working order.
