Tudor Heritage Black Bay 79220 "RaSP"

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Tudor Heritage Black Bay 79220 “RaSP”. Originally introduced in 2012, Tudor unveiled the Black Bay during Baselword as their modern day flagship sports watch. Early Black Bays were known as the “Smiley Face” Black Bays running on an ETA movement due to the shape of the text on the dial. Later on, this was replaced with an in-house movement and the early rose logo was replaced by a shield. The Black Bay has become a mainstay in Tudor’s lineup since its introduction.

This Black Bay, however, is no ordinary Black Bay. Limited to 75 pieces and offered in 2018, this rendition was commissioned by the British Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Unit (RaSP). This particular unit is responsible for protecting the Royal Family and members of the parliament. The RaSP logo of an English rose with a crown replaces text above the six and these were only offered to active or retired RaSP personnel.

As far as I know, the first and only RaSP Tudor that has exchanged hands publicly was from a Sotheby’s auction in February 2022. It appears that no others have surfaced. This is no surprise given that they only produced 75 and was only sold out of Watches of Switzerland in London. For Tudor fans who are looking for a rare piece with some provenance, this is as good as it gets.

Condition

This “RaSP” Tudor is in excellent pre-owned condition. There are no major signs of wear except for the lug areas with some hairlines likely from strap changes. The NATO strap remains in like new condition. It also comes with two additional Tudor straps. The watch comes accompanied with the original box, guarantee card, manuals and includes a letter from the original owner detailing his experience with the RaSP unit as well as a booklet detailing the provenance and communication with the original seller.
