Tudor Pelagos FXD 25797 2-Liner "Marine Nationale"

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Tudor Pelagos FXD “Marine Nationale”. Like the first Black Bay, the Pelagos was introduced in 2012 as a diver-centric piece complementary to the sporty, classical look of the Black Bay. The Pelagos was distinctive for the use of titanium for the case and the large waterproofness of up to 500M. The early Pelagos also utilised the ETA movement till 2015, where it was replaced by an in-house movement.

Tudor has long had a military relationship, specifically with the French Navy (Marine Nationale). Their original Submariner was produced for the purposes of deep sea diving. The French Navy also adopted later Tudor Submariner divers, with the later reference 7016 bearing the Tudor M.N. on the caseback. With all that history, Tudor announced an official partnership with the Marine Nationale in 2021 and subsequently announced the release of the Tudor Pelagos FXD x Marine Nationale.

Prior to the release, there were a lot of speculation as to what this collaboration would entail. During this period of frenzied speculation, another Pelagos made its way into the forums. Taken mainly off @bellemecanique’s Instagram stories and the Tudor France Facebook group seemingly at a Marine Nationale ceremony, a two-liner Pelagos was sighted with a M.N.21 engraving on the caseback. Now, bearing in mind that the FXD was released a month later as a 4-liner with an entirely different caseback engraving, this peculiar 2-liner was dismissed as either a fake or a prototype. With the FXD release, no one really talked about the two-liner.

Not many know about the existence of this piece and there’s hardly any information online. From information that I managed to gather through our friend @mk3radial and @bellemecanique himself, these were not “issued” per se but were made available to order by current members of the Commando Hubert. In this respect, it is similar to the RaSP Tudor Black Bay.

Not much other information has been made available including production numbers but one interesting point to note is that this was produced in both left and right-handed configurations. There are also some key differences. As seen, the MN-issued Pelagos has only two lines of text above the six. The caseback engraving also differs with a M.N.21 and the diver's number only. Finally, a special strap is used specifically for this version that can be connected to a rope to link divers together. This event can also be seen in Tudor's promotion video of the civilian FXD.

While one may be forgiven for mistaking this as the regular production FXD piece, a closer look will reveal that this Pelagos is perhaps Tudor’s best kept secrets - one so rare that its authenticity was questioned.
