Tudor "Snowflake" Submariner 7021/0

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Tudor “Snowflake” Submariner 7021/0. Once regarded as an affordable but inferior alternative to its parent company, Rolex, Tudor has made strides to come into its own in modern times. Originally formed by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf in 1926 after acquiring the rights to the brand, the goal was to producing watches with mass-market affordability. By installing cost-effective third-party movements within cases and parts produced by Rolex, the brand’s offering remained affordable with no compromise on quality. Indeed, until the Tudor Submariner was discontinued in 1999 and effectively replaced by the Tudor Black Bay, the offerings between the two brands remained highly similar in both form and function.

While the first Tudor Submariner was introduced in the 1954 as the reference 7922, the more recognizable reference would be the reference 7928. Released in 1959 with its recognizable crown guards and upgraded 39mm stainless steel case, this reference remains one of the most sought after references in the family of Tudor Submariners. 10 years after the introduction of the 7928, Tudor released the now iconic “Snowflake” Submariner references 7016 and 7021. Characterized by the snowflake-styled hour hand with a date and no-date model, these two references shaped the Tudor Submariner family till the late 1990s when production was ceased.

The first Tudor Submariner with a date function, the reference 7021 features a distinctive cyclops on the plexiglass for easy reading of the date while the earlier models featured a roulette date wheel as seen on the offered example. Powered by the self-winding ETA cal. 2484, the reference was offered in both black and blue, with the blue dials being more elusive. Being a seminal reference in the lineage of Tudor Submariners, the 7021 truly offers a ton of value in comparison to many of its counterparts.

Condition

This Tudor Submariner is in good overall condition. There are signs of wear throughout the case with a small ding near the bottom right lug and noticeable hairlines on the caseback. The lugs remain thick and sharp with no signs of prior refinishing. Both the serial and the reference are legible between the lugs and the serial dates it to 1969. The hour hand’s luminous material is cracked. It is sold as watch head only without any box, papers or bracelet. The watch has just been serviced and is in full working order.
