This is the Universal Geneve Compax reference 484.440. Universal Geneve was founded in 1894 and was the first company to release a wristwatch with the chronograph function in 1917. A brand once heralded in the same breath of Omega and Longines, UG has suffered due to the Quartz Crisis that occurred in the 1970s. Once a horological favourite, UG has remained dormant for many years, reeling from the after-effects of the Quartz Crisis. Their first Compax was manufactured in 1936 and its popularity caught on with it’s symmetrical dial and chronograph function. UG is a brand that while gone, may never be forgotten and there has been a recent resurgence in demand for their timepieces. The reference 484.440 is powered by the manual wind caliber Lemania 1873 with a 2 day power reserve. The crown has been replaced with a genuine Universal Geneve crown due to wear and tear. Original crown will be provided.
