Zenith Chronomaster A384 Lupin The Third Final Edition

US$0.00
SOLD

Description

This is the Zenith Chronomaster A384 Lupin The Third Final Edition. Zenith, as a brand, is one of the oldest continuously operating watchmakers that produced the highly important El Primero, the world’s first automatic chronograph movement that has notably powered the five digit Rolex Daytona. Founded in 1865 by Georges Favret-Jacot, their El Primero movement was the firs fully integrated self-winding chronograph movement with a high frequency movement, cementing the brand’s important stature in the history of horology.

Among the references that featured the aforementioned movement was the A384 in 1969. Given that it was such a popular and recognizable model bearing the Zenith heritage, it’s no surprise that the brand decided on a modern re-issue based on the 70s model during its 50th anniversary in 2019. With a tonneau shaped case identical to the orginal, the remake of the A384 was almost identical to the original with some modern deviances such as the use of sapphire crystal and modern luminous material. Alongside the case, the modern A384 also comes with the distinctive ladder-style bracelet originally made by Gay Freres for the original A384.

The Lupin Final Edition is the last of a trilogy featuring Arsene Lupin III, a famous fictional thief originally created in France that was later adapted into a hugely popular Japanese manga. The first edition of the trilogy was based on the Zenith that was worn by Lupin’s sidekick in the anime. Following this, Zenith produced the second edition, a A384 with the crowd-favourite panda colourway. The final edition, which was released in 2022, is by far the most striking with a combination of the two. Split diagonally across the middle, the final edition is a blend of the first two editions but feels like an entirely new watch altogether. A single dial piece meant that the process of mixing the two colours was challenging since it was hand-painted with very specific divisions. While the line is vintage-inspired, the black-on-white dial is a refreshing, coherent and unmistakeably modern.

As with most limited editions released during the period, the Final Edition was sold out worldwide almost immediately. That being said, the Final Edition certainly stands out more so than the first two editions due to the bold colour combination of the dial. Equipped with the trustworthy El Primero movement in a case nearly identical to the original, the collaboration with a niche fictional character such as Arsene Lupin makes this release unorthodox in style and inspiration.
