Description
This is the Zenith x Hodinkee Chronomaster Original Limited Edition. A collaboration between two stalwarts in the watch industry, the 300-piece limited edition marked the second time that these two brands had come together. Founded in 1865 by Georges Favret-Jacot, Zenith introduced the first chronograph equipped with the legendary El Primero movement in 1969 as the first fully integrated self-winding chronograph movement with a high frequency movement. This cemented the brand’s important stature in the history of horology and as a testament to the movement, the El Primero has been utilized in various important chronographs by other brands as well.
As varied as the Zenith El Primeros have been over the years, arguably the most distinctive and recognizable reference was the A386 with its tri-colour design that has come to define the reference. In fact, the A386 has been such a mainstay for Zenith that even today, the aesthetic design of the A386 has remained similar to when it was first introduced more than five decades ago. Re-introduced in 2021 as the Chronomaster Original and building on the original A386, the re-issue paired the timeless aesthetics of the A386 with modern upgrades.
Fitted with the Zenith El Primero Automatic Cal. 3600 visible through the sapphire caseback, the Hodinkee Edition is housed in a stainless steel 38mm case that remains true to the original mounted on a stainless steel bracelet with alternating brushed and polished finishes. Retaining the brand’s distinct tri-coloured chronograph design and the tachymetre scale on the outer track, the collaboration features a fashionable salmon-coloured dial and a matching salmon-coloured date disk. While the release is vintage-inspired, the salmon-coloured palette renders it unmistakably modern.
As with most limited editions released during the period, the Zenith x Hodinkee Chromomaster Original was sold out worldwide. That being said, this release certainly stands out more due to the bold and refreshing colour of the dial. Equipped with the trustworthy and legendary El Primero movement in a case nearly identical to the original, it remains highly distinct and sets itself apart among the modern Zenith re-issues.
Condition
This Zenith x Hodinkee Chronomaster Original is in very good pre-owned condition. There are some light signs of prior wear on the bracelet while the case remains in excellent condition with no dings or noticeable hairlines. Both front and back crystals remain nick-free and the bracelet is fully-linked. The watch retains a full set of original boxes and warranty card and remains under factory warranty until 2027. It is in full working order.
