A manufacturer synonymous with its flagship reversible wristwatch, JLC is a storied brand with a long and rich history in watchmaking. Colloquially known as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker” for its watchmaking prowess, the brand has almost two centuries of watchmaking history with its most important and recognizable creation being the first reversible watch - the Reverso.

The story of the Reverso began in 1931, where Rene-Alfred Chauvot patented the creation of what would eventually become the brand’s most iconic and associated model. Dating back pre-JLC, the creation of the Reverso was originally meant for the sport of polo, with the reversible case acting as protection for the front. Throughout the years, there have been countless variations of the iconic JLC model since its first introduction in the early 20th century. In 1991, 60 years after the original Reverso, JLC introduced the Grande Taille case to mark its anniversary and subsequently, introduced the Serie Premiere Japan limited edition in this very case.

Featuring the quintessential Reverso dial on the front with a silver guilloche centre and small seconds, the Serie Premiere is set apart by the coloured dials on the reverse. With 300 pieces each of red, blue and green dials, the reverse dial also features a day and night indicator at the six. A classic dress timepiece with whimsical undertones, the Serie Premiere is certainly one of the most distinct of its time.

While not much else is known about the origins of this limited edition release, it is certainly aesthetically pleasing with its colourful reverse dials. Powered by the manual-winding Cal. 854, the Serie Premiere truly utilizes the brand’s signature timepiece as a form of colourful expression with a design that has not been replicated since.

This JLC Reverso Serie Premiere is in good pre-owned condition. There is noticeable wear on the case in the form of hairlines and a ding on the bezel near the 4 o’clock. Both dials and crystals remain clean. The caseback remains in good condition with deep engravings. The factory bracelet has no stretch. The watch does not come with its original box or papers and is in full working order.
