This is the Rolex Day-Date 18238. Often associated with opulence and luxury, the Day-Date was the first timepiece to display both the day and the date on the dial. Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date was colloquially named “The President” as it was once gifted to then President Dwight Eisenhower. Traditionally representing prestige, the Day-Date line was produced solely in precious metals with an option of a smooth or fluted bezel.
Regarded as a vintage reference with modern capabilities, the 18238 was introduced by Rolex in 1988. Equipped with the Cal. 3155 featuring the double quickset function, the new movement allowed for a marked improvement from the previous iterations with the ability to adjust the day and the date independently. Replacing the single quickset reference 18038, the 18238 represented the last series of the five-digit Day-Dates and was itself replaced by the six digit references in 2000 as the brand ushered in the modern era.
Fitted with a factory white pyramid dial featuring three dimensional triangular motifs, this 18238 features applied gold Roman numerals with matching yellow gold hands and a fluted bezel. However, what sets this particular piece apart from its peers is the accessories that it comes with, including the original punched papers, the original purchase receipt, all the associated manuals and both inner and outer Day-Date boxes. While the 18238 is by no means a rare model, finding one with a complete set such as these are proving more and more difficult to come by.

This Rolex Day-Date 18238 is in very good pre-owned condition. The factory Swiss Made pyramid dial has flaws and remains in perfect condition with no signs of aging. The case remains in overall excellent condition with some signs of patina on the front lugs and is likely unpolished. The caseback has some hairlines from prior wear but no dings with all three caseback on the lugs remaining crisp and clear. The Rolex 8385 bracelet has five removable links with no stretch and is stamped T3 which is correct for its age. The set includes the original inner and outer Day-Date boxes, punched warranty papers dated 1994, manuals, calendar and the original purchase receipt. The watch is in full working order.
