Description

This is the Patek Philippe World Time 5110G. Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe has always been at the upper echelons of haute horology. A company that has always been privately owned, Patek has been manufacturing watches for almost two centuries without interruption. The company is currently owned by the Stern family, whose heritage dates back to when they were supplying dials to Patek in the 1920s.

While the Aquanauts and Nautiluses have experienced a meteoric rise in prices, they are best known for their complicated, high-end timepieces. Without taking anything away from the success of the Nautilus, it’s clear that there is tremendous comparative value in their complicated wristwatches given the prices today. In the 1920s, Patek created the world’s first split-second chronograph and the first perpetual calendar, and later, the first perpetual calendar chronograph. Rich in history with complicated timepieces, it’s clear that an important reason of the brand’s success lies in its ability to produce complications at a high level.

True to the brand’s history of complicated wristwatches, this reference 5110G consists of the world-time complication with a pusher at the 10 o’clock for easy adjustment of the world-time complication. This reference was introduced in 2000 and discontinued shortly after in 2006. Produced in the four precious metals of white, rose, yellow gold and platinum, the 5110G was powered by the micro-rotor Cal. 240/188. Importantly, the 5110 was the only reference in the 37.5mm case size as the successor, the 5130G, received an larger 39mm case.

With the engine-turned guilloche dial, the distinctive UTC markings surrounding the dial and the case profile of a classic Calatrava, the 5110G is certainly one of the more recognizable timepieces with this particular complication. In many ways, the reference is seminal to the brand as Patek Philippe did not produce any world timers for two decades prior to the 5110. Intuitive and functional, the 5110 is among the references that best represents in the turn of the millenium.

Condition

This Patek Philippe 5110G is in excellent pre-owned condition with only light signs of wear on the white gold case. The caseback engravings are still crisp and sharp with no flaws on both sapphire crystals. The watch retains its original strap and white gold deployant buckle and is in full working order.
